On Shortland Road, our team spearheaded a comprehensive project that included a rear extension and a vertical piggyback extension on the second floor. The challenge lay in establishing local precedence for a vertical rear extension, effectively converting a two-bedroom property into a five-bedroom dwelling. Adding external wall insulation was a key component of our strategy, and our team ensured a suitable design to prevent thermal bridging. Collaborating closely with a structural engineer, we developed a detailed design that harmonised the aesthetic and structural aspects of the extension seamlessly.


Challenges:


The project navigated within the realm of architectural design, requiring delicate negotiation with the local authority to ensure harmony with the surrounding area. Additionally, organising the placement of the suspended floor system posed a challenge, demanding a strategic approach to achieve optimal floor-to-ceiling height on all levels.
